Health IT Success Story The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports research aimed at improving the efficiency of healthcare services. The AHRQ hosts the National Resource Center for Health Information Technology (NRCHIT). The center serves as a connection between researchers, the healthcare community and experts in information technology. Its main role is to encourage the adoption of information technology in healthcare by availing latest tools, promoting best practices and providing excellent laboratories (Là ³pez et al., 2011). The AHRQ employs system quality indicators to assess whether providers meet the required standards. Finally, the government and health providers must engage the public by highlighting the advantages of PHR systems and address concerns raised such as privacy and safety. Personal health records (PHRs) have numerous benefits to providers and patients. The information contained in PHR systems range from home measurement reports for blood sugar levels, blood pressure and body temperature, radiology images, laboratory results and family history information (Mandl Kohane, 2016). The acquired system will facilitate storage of health information in ways that can be comprehended by patients without special assistance from physicians. Moreover, it will provide patients with important information such as interpretation and possible course of action. Patients will take an active role in disease prevention and management. The current system should be maintained because it meets all the qualities of a good PHR system. It has already been tested and proven to function properly to the satisfaction of both patients and doctors. The literature on personal health records systems emphasizes the importance of putting in place mechanisms that support the information needs of both patients and providers (Mandl Kohane, 2016).
